NAPAS Brings Apple Pay to its Customers in Vietnam

The National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS) today brings Apple Pay to its cardholders in Vietnam. Apple Pay is an easy, secure and private way to pay in-store, in-app and online.

To pay in-store, customers simply double-click the side button, authenticate and hold their iPhone or Apple Watch near a payment terminal to make a contactless payment. Customers do not need to enter their PIN when making in-store purchases with Apple Pay. Every Apple Pay purchase is secure because it is authenticated with Face ID, Touch ID, or device passcode, as well as a one-time unique dynamic security code. Today, Apple Pay brings faster, safer and more convenient ways to pay to customers, regardless of whether they are buying coffee at Highland coffee, buying groceries at Annam Gourmet, or taking a ride with BE — Apple Pay is accepted anywhere contactless payments are accepted.

Sharing about the availability of domestic cards on Apple Pay, Mr. Nguyen Quang Minh, General Director of NAPAS said: “By bringing Apple Pay to NAPAS domestic cardholders, we will create a breakthrough moment that promotes digital transactions, brings convenience, and increases private and secure payment experiences for users. Looking back at the progress of card payment in Vietnam in recent years, we can see strong and rapid development of digital payment card methods on mobile devices. In particular, with the convenient, safe and easy-to-use payment features, payment cards have been applied in payment solutions for many aspects of modern society such as transportation, retail, and dining. The availability of Apple Pay on NAPAS contributes to the development of a modern card payment ecosystem as well as international integration, and it meets the payment needs of consumers in Vietnam.”

Customers can also use Apple Pay on iPhone, iPad and Mac to make faster and more convenient purchases in apps or on the web without having to create accounts or repeatedly type in contact information, card details, shipping and billing information. Customers no longer need to wait for OTPs and still enjoy secure payments.

Security and privacy are at the core of Apple Pay. When customers use a credit or debit/domestic card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element, an industry-standard, certified chip designed to store the payment information safely on the device.

Apple Pay is easy to set up. On iPhone, simply open the Wallet app, tap the ‘+’, and follow the steps to add NAPAS domestic cards. Once a customer adds a card to iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac, they can start using Apple Pay on that device right away. Customers will continue to receive all of the rewards and benefits offered by NAPAS cards.

NAPAS has coordinated with banks to enable Apple Pay with NAPAS domestic cards starting with Vietcombank and OCB. In addition to cooperation with banks, NAPAS has coordinated with payment service providers, such as OnePay, VNPay, Zalo Pay and Ngan Luong to expand the acceptance of Apple Pay for NAPAS domestic cards.
