Warning about 24 types of fraud in cyberspace

According to the Information Security Department, recently, online fraud cases have been complicated in the digital environment. In the first 6 months of the year, the situation of online fraud in Vietnam increased by 64,78% over the same period last year; increased by 37,82% compared to the last 6 months of 2022.

There are 3 main groups of scams (brand impersonation, account takeover and other combinations) with 24 types of scams taking place in Vietnam's cyberspace; targeting the following target groups: the elderly with 15 frequent scams; children have 3 types of online lures; students and youth have 13 forms; The subjects of workers, workers, and office workers were lured in 19 forms of fraud...

One of the main causes of this situation is determined to come from the perception of users. In addition to technical solutions, the Department of Information Security finds that propagating, disseminating and raising awareness to equip each individual with basic knowledge and skills to ensure information security in cyberspace is a key factor to help create a safe cyberspace in Vietnam, contributing to accelerating the digital transformation process, and developing the digital socio-economic infrastructure in a sustainable way.

The campaign "Month of action for propaganda on identification and prevention of online fraud" was launched by the Ministry of Information and Communications and deployed from June 23 to July 6 under the chairmanship of the Information Security Department in coordination with members of the Alliance to raise awareness and skills to ensure information security for people in cyberspace. The campaign was deployed on a large scale, contributing to raising people's awareness through clips of popular online scams, identifying 23 types of scams, and providing a set of prevention knowledge manuals to protect yourself and your family online.
