Techcombank posts record Q2 profit on strong fee income and digital growth

The bank posted pre-tax profit of VND18.5 trillion (US$703 million) in the first half of the year, up 22.5 per cent year-on-year.

Techcombank reported record earnings in the second quarter of 2026, driven by robust growth across its core businesses, particularly fee income, while maintaining one of the strongest asset quality profiles in the banking sector.

The bank posted pre-tax profit of VND18.5 trillion (US$703 million) in the first half of the year, up 22.5 per cent year-on-year. Second quarter profit reached a record VND9.67 trillion, an increase of 22.4 per cent from the same period last year.

CEO Jens Lottner said the results reflected sustainable growth in Techcombank's core businesses, a more diversified income base and disciplined execution of its long-term strategy.

"Fee income continued to be a key growth driver, supported by our leadership in transaction banking and cards, rapid expansion of insurance services and the development of new fee-based products," he said.

"At the same time, we continue to leverage artificial intelligence and data as strategic capabilities to improve operational efficiency and productivity across the organisation."

Operating income rose 17.5 per cent year-on-year to VND28.6 trillion in the first six months, supported by both net interest income and non-interest revenue.

Net interest income increased 16.3 per cent to VND20.3 trillion, while the bank's net interest margin improved to 3.4 per cent in the second quarter, benefiting from pricing adjustments and a higher-yielding loan portfolio.

Fee income remained the standout performer, climbing 37.6 per cent to VND7.6 trillion in the first half, including a record VND4.2 trillion in the second quarter.

Transaction banking services led growth, with income from letters of credit, cash management and payment services surging 152.4 per cent year-on-year to VND3.3 trillion.

Insurance fee income more than doubled to VND1 trillion following the full-scale rollout of Techcom Life, strengthening the bank's leadership in bancassurance. Card and foreign exchange services also recorded growth of more than 21 per cent, while investment banking rebounded rapidly in the second quarter as bond distribution and advisory activities accelerated.

Despite continued investment in technology infrastructure and talent, Techcombank maintained a cost-to-income ratio of 30.9 per cent in the second quarter. Loan-loss provisions fell 24.6 per cent to VND1.59 trillion, reflecting improved credit quality.

As of June 30, the bank's total assets reached VND1.27 quadrillion.

Outstanding credit on a standalone basis expanded 14.3 per cent from the beginning of the year, including infrastructure and social housing loans excluded from the State Bank of Vietnam's credit growth quota. Excluding those loans, credit still increased 11.6 per cent.

Retail and small- and medium-sized enterprise lending reached VND407 trillion, while corporate lending totalled VND542.4 trillion, with financing directed towards major infrastructure projects as well as consumer goods, retail, logistics, utilities, entertainment and tourism.

Customer deposits rose 4.8 per cent to VND697.4 trillion. The bank continued to maintain one of the industry's strongest current account – savings account (CASA) ratios at 38.3 per cent, equivalent to VND267 trillion. Corporate CASA balances increased 23 per cent during the period, supported by growing adoption of the bank's digital transaction platforms.

Techcombank also maintained a solid balance sheet, with a loan-to-deposit ratio of 80.1 per cent and a Basel II capital adequacy ratio of 15 per cent, among the highest in the market. The non-performing loan ratio remained low at 1.15 per cent, while the loan-loss coverage ratio stood at 125.5 per cent.

The bank's digital transformation strategy has continued to attract new customers. Its customer base expanded to 18.2 million as of the end of June, with 66.3 per cent of new customers acquired through digital channels.

Retail customers conducted 2.8 billion transactions via digital banking platforms in the first half, up 16.3 per cent year-on-year, helping Techcombank maintain its leading market share in both inbound and outbound electronic payment transactions.

The bank also reaffirmed its commitment to shareholder returns by completing a cash dividend payment of nearly VND trillion, equivalent to a 7 per cent payout, marking the third consecutive year it has distributed cash dividends.

Alongside FinanceAsia's Best Bank in Việt Nam award for the fourth straight year, Techcombank also received Euromoney's 2026 Best Bank in Việt Nam award, reflecting its strengths in digital innovation, wealth management and customer experience.
