Vice Chairman cum General Secretary Nguyễn Quốc Hùng receives Huawei delegation

On the afternoon of October 9, 2025, in Hanoi, Dr. Nguyễn Quốc Hùng — Vice Chairman cum General Secretary of the Vietnam Banking Association (VNBA) — received and held a working session with a Huawei delegation led by Mr. Eddy Suryanto, Head of Industry Solutions (Digital Finance) for the Asia-Pacific region of Huawei.

The meeting aimed to deepen mutual understanding, exchange experience, and promote cooperation in key areas including digital transformation, fintech, cybersecurity, and fraud prevention.

Dr. Nguyễn Quốc Hùng — Vice Chairman cum General Secretary of the Vietnam Banking Association

In his remarks, Dr. Nguyễn Quốc Hùng expressed his pleasure at being able to discuss direction for future cooperation with Huawei, especially in research, training, and technology transfer to Vietnam’s banking sector. He noted that toward the end of October 2025, VNBA plans to organize a working delegation of about 40 representatives from banks and member organizations to visit China. The focus will be on three priority areas: digital transformation in banking operations; fintech technology solutions; and information security, including fraud prevention.

Dr. Nguyễn Quốc Hùng emphasized that with Huawei’s global experience and ICT infrastructure network, the company is a promising partner to provide security, risk management, and technology solutions to Vietnam’s banking system. VNBA said it would move quickly to develop an action plan to connect Huawei with member institutions, facilitating experience-sharing, planning technology infrastructure development—especially in digital transformation and cybersecurity in banking—and seeking appropriate cooperation models for the future.

During the meeting, Huawei representatives shared an overview of the group’s scale and development orientation. Founded in China in 1987, Huawei now employs about 208,000 people globally, operating across three main pillars: consumer devices, telecommunications, and enterprise solutions, while expanding into smart mobility, cloud computing, and digital energy. Worldwide, Huawei serves over one billion users and collaborates with more than 36 million business customers. In 2024, the corporation invested 179 billion RMB in research and development (R&D), accounting for 20.8% of total revenue, placing it among the top 6 global R&D investors for eight consecutive years.

Mr. Eddy Suryanto - Financial Industry Director of Huawei

In Vietnam, Huawei has been present since 1998 and currently maintains offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, plus a service center in Da Nang. Notably, 80% of Huawei Vietnam’s staff are local Vietnamese, with an average tenure of 12 years. Huawei is cooperating with over 300 customers and partners in Vietnam, including VNPT, Viettel, VinaPhone, and many financial institutions and enterprises.

Particularly in banking, Huawei has partnered with more than 5,600 banks across 80 countries and territories. In Vietnam, Huawei has been deploying projects with SCB, SeABank, Home Credit, and other credit institutions, focusing on digital transformation, security, data analytics, cloud computing, and operational optimization.

Mr. Yifei Huang - Huawei Southeast Asia Multi-country Enterprise Commercial & Distribution Dept

With an open‐exchange mindset, Huawei representatives expressed their wish to seek opportunities to collaborate with Vietnamese banks and credit organizations through VNBA. They proposed focusing cooperation on three core areas to advance the banking sector: strengthening resilience and cybersecurity; accelerating service innovation; and promoting green finance and sustainable development.

At the close of the session, both sides agreed to cooperate in a focused, substantial, and effective direction. They also decided to allocate sufficient time for technical exchanges instead of broad-ranging content.

Meeting view

Regarding the upcoming exchange program for the VNBA delegation in Shanghai, Huawei will present technology solutions in the banking and finance field from a business perspective, so that delegates can readily approach and apply them in practice. Huawei will also support VNBA’s connection with Alipay — one of China’s leading e-payment platforms — to foster exchange and understanding about digital payment models, data ecosystems, and security solutions.

The meeting concluded with a photo session between the two sides.
