The working delegation from the Lao Bankers Association also included Mr. Nathalath Keophaseuth (LBA Vice Chairman and Deputy CEO of Lao Foreign Trade Bank), Mr. Xaythong Phomphithack (Acting CEO of LBA), and Mr. Bounpasith Phommichack (Deputy Head of Capital Division, Lao-Vietnam Joint Venture Bank). Representatives from several departments of the VNBA Standing Office also attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Hung provided an overview of VNBA’s organizational structure, development history and operational achievements since its establishment nearly 32 years ago. He introduced the Association’s key roles as a voluntary professional organization of credit institutions and related financial organizations in Vietnam, emphasizing its efforts in representing member interests, advising on banking policies, and fostering a safe and efficient banking environment.

Dr. Hung also shared the Association’s ongoing initiatives in communications, training and the development of important industry guidelines, including ethics standards for banking staff, payment fraud prevention handbooks, and frameworks for QR cross-border payments and debt restructuring once the related legal frameworks are complete.
Chairman Mr. Phouthaxay Sivilay expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm welcome and the valuable exchange of insights. He highlighted the importance of the LBA’s role in supporting the Lao banking system, especially given the current economic context in Laos, and welcomed further cooperation with VNBA to strengthen organizational capacity, expand membership engagement, and enhance operational effectiveness.

Both sides concluded the meeting with a shared commitment to continue cooperation, deepen information exchange and promote mutual learning, contributing to the sustainable development of the banking sectors in both Vietnam and Laos.
